The Tri-City Diesel announces the signing of eleven new players to the 2003 squad. Ten of those players were signed at a combine in Las Vegas, Nevada. The combine featured athletes from a four state region of Utah, California, Arizona, and Nevada.
Topping this list is Defensive End, Adrian Watson. Watson, 6'3", 265 lbs., was a four-year letter winner and starter for the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV) who also played in this year's All-American Bowl. Tri-City Diesel head coach Leland Skeen described Watson as an "excellent player. an absolute stud, who should look to have an immediate impact on the team."
Offensively, the Diesel signed two receivers in Al Tate (6'2", 185 lbs.) and Chris Isedore (6', 180 lbs.). Glen Pilarski (6'5", 305 lbs.) also signed and will play either center or guard on the offensive line. The defensive unit will be strengthened by the signing of six new players at the linebacker and defensive back positions. Players include Paul Stolbbrg, a 6 4", 245 lb. linebacker from Southern Utah University and Engene Breard (6', 235 lbs.) out of Benedictine College in Kansas. According to Coach Skeen, Breard appears to be very versatile and could be used at various positions including rover, linebacker, or running back. Also looking to contribute on both sides of the ball at defensive back or receiver is Kevin Rayburn, a 5' 11", 180 lb. utility man out of UNLV. Rounding out the newcomers are Mark Hays, a 5'9", 205 lb. rover/defensive back out of UNLV and defensive backs Chuck Porter (6'2", 210 lbs.) and Ed Phillips (5'10", 185 lbs.).
The Tri-City Diesel also signed Brian Villanueva, a 6'4", 245 lb. quarterback out of Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley, Georgia. In 2000, Villanueva passed for 2,100 yards and 16 touchdowns; he also earned Division II All-American honors and was voted the Offensive Back of the Year.
