Four standout at tryouts
01/13/03 Night Train Press Release
La Crosse Night Train Head Coach Mike Brown may have found a few diamonds in the rough at the team’s first open tryout at UW-Eau Claire over the weekend. La Crosse held a two-day workout at the school’s Olson Addition on Saturday and Sunday.
Three area players and a former Valparaiso University linebacker are likely training camp candidates. UW-Platteville wide receiver Reginald Davis, Winona State’s Eric Overland and Eric Williams, and Ronnie Brown a linebacker from Valparaiso caught Coach Brown’s eye.
Davis (6’2, 210 lbs.) was a four-year starter at UW-Platteville and caught 149 career passes for 1,706 yards and 15 touchdowns. He is originally from Madison, Wisconsin.
Overland (6’4, 230 lbs.) played four years at defensive end at Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota. He displayed great athletic ability and registered a 43-inch vertical jump in agility testing. Williams (6’0, 210 lbs.) transferred to Winona State after becoming an all-conference performer at North Iowa Area Community College.
Brown (6’2, 240 lbs.) was a First-Team All Pioneer Conference linebacker at Valparaiso University in 1999. He also has two years of semi-pro football experience in Illinois.
The Night Train hopes to get another handful of potential stars at this weekend’s tryouts in Eau Claire. The team will hold its final open tryouts on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Olson Addition on the campus of UW-Eau Claire.
