RiverHawks sign Quarterback
02/04/03 RiverHawks Press Release
The Tennessee RiverHawks have added a second quarterback to their roster, signing Steven Christie out of Menlo College in Atherton, CA.
After graduating in 2001, the 6’3” 210 lb. quarterback played for the Fursty Razorbacks in the German Football League. In the same year, Christie led the Razorbacks to a 9-1 record while being named team and conference MVP. During that season, Christie completed 56 percent of his passes (134 of 238) for 2,024 yards, and 22 touchdown passes to only 4 interceptions, a then club record. In 2002, Christie surpassed his own records by throwing for 3,104 yards and 37 touchdowns on 53 percent passing (200 of 376), and only 12 interceptions. In the two years combined, Christie ran for 898 yards and 15 touchdowns on 99 attempts.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to come to Knoxville and play for a great coaching staff. I have traveled to Germany, and lived in California, now I want to experience football and life in the South,” Christie said when asked about coming to Knoxville and playing for the RiverHawks in their inaugural season.
While a senior at Menlo College, Christie finished the season with a 168.56 quarterback rating for the number one passing offense in the nation. Before playing two seasons at Menlo College, Christie attended Diablo Valley Junior College and led a team with a 16 game losing streak prior to his arrival, to a conference championship in his first year.
