Storm signs three veterans
02/04/03 Storm Press Release
The Sioux Falls Storm of the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) is pleased to announce the signing of veteran offensive lineman Roger Pedersen, running back David Ruter, and wide receiver Chad Gomarko.
Roger will return to the Sioux Falls Storm for his third year, and fourth with Sioux Falls indoor football. He played one year with the Sioux Falls Cobras in the Indoor Football League (IFL). Pedersen was an All-Conference performer at Augustana College (SD) and was selected to play in the Snow Bowl (Division II All-Star game, now called the Cactus Bowl) as a senior. “Roger has been a mainstay in our organization and we are excited to have him back for another year. He has been our team captain and is the kind of player and person you want to coach,” says head coach Kurtiss Riggs.
Ruter, University of Sioux Falls alum, is returning for his third season with the Storm in 2003. Despite battling injuries in 2002, Ruter recorded 15 touchdowns in only 8 games. David rushed for 307 yards in 2002, averaging 4 yards a carry. He also caught 17 receptions for 195 yards. “When Ruter is healthy, you won’t see a better back in the NIFL. He is that good,” says general manager Colin Steen.
Gomarko will return to the Sioux Falls Storm for his fourth year of indoor football. This Mr. Utility man who can play wide receiver, running back, and even quarterback if needed, will return in 2003 after suffering a season ending injury in 2002 after only 4 games. Chad gained All-NIFL honors in 2001 after gaining 428 yards receiving, 254 yards rushing and 766 yards returning kicks. He scored 16 touchdowns in his 2001 season with the Storm. In four games played in the 2002 season Gomarko was averaging 11 yards a catch and 14 yards a return. “We are extremely happy that Chad has decided to sign for another season. His versatility adds a lot to our offense and makes us even more potent,” says head coach Kurtiss Riggs.
The Sioux Falls Storm is slated for a preseason game on March 6 in Sioux City, with the home opener at the Sioux Falls Arena on April 5, when Casper, Wyoming will come to town.
