The Sioux Falls Storm of the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) is pleased to announce the opening of training camp for the 2003 season. The Storm’s first practice at the Empire Golf and Sport Dome will be Monday, January 24 at 9 p.m. The majority of practice time for the Storm will be help at the Empire Golf and Sport Dome, but the team will use the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds sparingly as well.
The Sioux Falls Storm is coming off an 8-6 season in 2002 with a home record of 6-1. Fans will see some changes with the 2003 team. Former Storm head coach, Mike Aldrich, took a graduate assistant position at the University of Louisville and thus Kurtiss Riggs has taken reign of this 2003 Storm team and is very excited about the start of a new season, “Our coaching staff and front office has done an excellent job of bringing in some talent to this years team, we’ll have a great mix of returning veterans and new faces that will step right in and compete at a high level”. The Storm will have about 40 players in camp and will have to bring that number down to 30 by March 23rd, when the Storm travels to Rapid City to open up their regular season play.
The Storm will head to Sioux City, Iowa on March 6 for a preseason game against the Bandits. The Storm’s home opener is April 5, when the Storm will face Casper, Wyoming.
