For the first time in team history, the FireAnts opened the 2003 NIFL season during Week 1 of play as they lost against the Beaumont Drillers 33-10 on the road this past Saturday.
Tupelo defensive lineman Christopher Eggleston blocked a field goal out of the back end zone resulting in a safety during the second quarter. 'Ants running back Chris Rainey scored Tupelo's lone touchdown on a 7-yard run in the fourth quarter. He then ran in the 2-point conversion to give the FireAnts 10 points for the game. Tupelo netted 145 yards of offense in comparison to Beaumont's 238.
UP NEXT
The FireAnts will continue life on the road, as they take on the Lake Charles LandSharks this Saturday in Louisiana.
"We have one game under our belt, and have made key adjustments," Head Coach John Gore said. "Lake Charles is going into their home opener in front of a loud crowd, but with practice and preparations this week...our guys will be ready."
Saturday's game will serve as Lake Charles' first game of the season. The game kicks off at 7:05pm.

HOME OPENER
The FireAnts will take on the Austin Rockers as they open the season on home turf at the BancorpSouth Center on April 12th. The game will get underway at 7:05pm. Season tickets are still available for all seven home games of action, with seats starting as low as $70 for adults and $35 for children 12 and under/seniors 60 and over.
