Bandits announce roster moves

03/27/03 Bandits Press Release

The Sioux City Bandits of the National Indoor Football League today have announced a number of roster moves before the opening home game against the Rapid City Red Dogs this Saturday at the Sioux City Auditorium. The Bandits opened the season on the road on March 14, with a loss to the La Crosse Night Train 47-21.

Today the team has officially released linebacker Matt Hughes and place kicker Adam Hicks. Hicks has signed a 2003 contract with the Sioux Falls Storm of the NIFL.

Also today, the Bandits are pleased to announce these player signings.

Demetrius Richards (Linebacker, 6'1", 225lbs.) Richards played the 2002 season with the Omaha Beef of the NIFL. He played 11 games for the Beef, had 88 total tackles, 3 sacks and 16 tackles for loss, which ranked in the top 15 in the League. Richards is a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he played on a North Central Conference Championship team. Coach Reinhardt states, "The addition of Demetrius Richards brings the Bandits an experienced linebacker who can play in the league. He has exceptional quickness, which gives us many defensive options. After moving Jesse W. to the linebacker position for our first game, it became evident that we need him up on the line, his position last year where he was an All-Star."

Whitney Hillin (Kicker, 5'10", 165lbs.) Hillin played the 2002 season with the Lake Charles Landsharks in the NIFL, played in the Arena 2 League in 2001 and with the Shreveport Bombers of the IPFL in the 2000 season. Hillin is a graduate of Midland College in Midland, Texas. In the 2002 season, he was the Atlantic Conference All-Star Kicker. Hillin was the best place-kicker in the NIFL with 148 total points on 53 of 66 extra points and 31 of 72 on field goals, his 31 field goals ranked second in the League behind Lincoln's Chace Long. He was tenth in the NIFL in scoring with his 148 points. Reinhardt comments, "We feel very fortunate to be able to pick up a kicker like Whitney Hillin. He got caught up in a numbers game in Lake Charles and wanted to come up here to play. With the loss of Adam Hicks, who was the fourth best kicker last year and to replace him with the third best kicker, we have welcomed Whitney with open arms."

Lee Finnie (Wide Receiver, 6'5", 220lbs) Finnie played the 2002 season with the Mobile Wizards of the Arena 2 League, and played for the Mississippi Firedogs of the NIFL in 2002. In 2001, he played for the LA Inferno in the United States Indoor Football League. Finnie is a graduate of Compton College in Los Angeles and Lynwood High School in Lynwood, California. Coach Reinhardt said, "Finnie is a big target with good hands, we are anxious to see how he fits into our offensive system."

Again, the Sioux City Bandits want to thank you for all support in promoting the team this year and over the past three years. With out the coverage of the Sioux City Bandits would not be where we are now as we look forward to the rest of the 2003 season and to the future in the new Tyson/IBP Events Center.
