Billings ride 1st quarter edge to win
03/30/02 Diesel Press Release Despite outscoring the Billings Outlaws 27-26 over the last three quarters, the Tri-City Diesel couldn't overcome the 21-10 edge of the first quarter, falling to 1-2 with the 37-47 loss in the Diesel Dome in Kearney.
The teams played even-up ball on the ground, gaining just 35 yards between them (18 and 17), but Billings threw 68 more yards than the Diesel's 218 in the air for the difference. Diesel newcomer at quarterback Justin Coleman tossed three touchdown strikes, two of them a 47-yard play and a 10-yarder to Greg Albright, and rushed one yard for another. Tyrone Thomas snagged a two-yard pass for a TD, and Dale Van Housen blasted one in on the ground from four yards out.
The Diesel offense was stymied, however, by five turnovers in the game. A trip to Casper is next up for the Diesel this Saturday night, the 13th. The next home game for the Tri-City team is Sunday, the 28th, as Sioux City's Bandits visit the Diesel Dome.
