LandSharks re-sign RB Byron Allen
04/16/03 LandSharks Press Release
With the injury Friday night to rookie RB Anthony Johnson, the Lake Charles LandSharks have added RB Byron Allen. Allen will join David Winbush in the backfield for the LandSharks. Byron Allen is the all-time leading rusher in the Indoor Professional Football League (which merged with the NIFL in 2002) and was with the LandSharks during the 2001 and 2002 seasons.
Always a fan favorite, Allen’s season was cut short last year with an ankle injury. Allen was the LandSharks’ leading rusher last year with 212 yards on 60 carries in 8 games. Allen averaged 3.5 yards per carry and 26.5 yards per game. Allen had 4 touchdowns.
Byron Allen is one of the best short yardage backs in the history of indoor football and will provide a great one-two punch, along with David Winbush, for the LandSharks. Allen’s leadership and nose for the goal will be a great addition to the team.
The Lake Charles LandSharks will practice at 7 PM on Wednesday and Thursday this week before hitting the road Saturday for Beaumont, Texas where the Sharks will face the Beaumont Drillers at 7 PM Saturday. The LandSharks will return to the Reef in Lake Charles to host the Houma Bayou Bucks on April 26th. Tickets still remain for the April 26th game against the Bucks. LandShark season tickets are also available. Remember to get your tickets by calling 477-FINS (3467) or by visiting the Sharks’ site at www.landsharksfootball.com. Listen to all the LandSharks’ games on AM 1310 KEZM. Come out and support your Lake Charles LandSharks.
