The NIFL comes to Laredo
Due to an increase in interest in the Laredo Texas area concerning the National Indoor Football League, the NIFL has agreed to move a regular season game to the Laredo Expo Center.
The previously scheduled divisional game to be played on May 3, 2003 between the Tennessee Riverhawks and the Lake Charles Landsharks has been moved from May 3rd to May 24th and will be hosted at the Laredo Expo Center. Both teams currently have a bye on May 24th so there would be no scheduling conflicts. The game results will stand for both teams. League President, Carolyn Shiver, who also owns the Lake Charles team, said that the game will stand as a regular season conference game and the result of the play will be counted in the NIFL standings. Both teams have agreed to move this conference game from Knoxville to Laredo in an effort to support the league office’s expansion efforts for 2004.
The hockey team in Laredo is currently seating approximately 7000 per game, there is no reason to believe that the NIFL will not seat as well. A team in Laredo would be a tremendous asset for the Atlantic South division in 2004.
