Bayou Bucks sign Tyler
04/24/03 Bayou Bucks Press Release
Travis Carrell, General Manager of the National Indoor Football League’s Bayou Bucks, is pleased to announce that the Bucks have re-signed former LSU standout Herb Tyler to take over at Quarterback for the remainder of the 2003 season. Herb started two games for the Bucks last year before suffering a season ending Achilles tendon injury. Carrell stated, “Herb brings the Bayou Bucks a wealth of experience as well as the ability to make quick decisions that are crucial to the indoor game. His character and leadership will be a welcome addition to our team.”
Jack Phillips, Head Coach of the Bayou Bucks added, “Herb Tyler was my first recruit. I still have the confidence that I had in him going into last season. Herb is a great young man that would make any team better. His passion for the game of football will instantly translate into a strong leader on the field, and he still has that fire I’m looking for.”
Tyler (5-10, 200 lbs) played at LSU from 1995 to 1998, while totaling 27 wins, the second highest winning mark by a LSU quarterback. He is also the fourth leading passer in school history with 5,876 yards. Tyler obtained these numbers by completing 434 of 715 passes with 40 touchdown passes and 24 interceptions. Tyler holds the LSU record for 23 rushing touchdowns over his career. Tyler’s indoor experience includes one season with the now defunct Baton Rouge Blaze of the Arena 2 League in which he rushed for 19 touchdowns and passed for 20 touchdowns in only 10 games. In limited action with the Bucks last season, Tyler ran for 2 touchdowns and passed for 2 touchdowns.
The Bayou Bucks, Houma’s first professional sports franchise, began their second season
with wins at home against the Myrtle Beach Stingrays and the Oklahoma Crude. Their
next home game will be Sunday, May 4th at 3:00 p.m. at Barker Field at the Houma Terrebonne Civic Center. Tickets for all remaining Bayou Bucks’ home games can be purchased through all Ticketmaster locations.
