The LandSharks are proud to welcome David Winbush. The LandSharks feel that Winbush will provide experience and ability; which, along with other key acquisitions, will push them over the playoff hump and into the NIFL Championship. Through five games, Winbush has carried the ball 49 times for 227 yards, an average of 4.6 yards per carry, with 9 touchdowns. Winbush is averaging 45.4 yards per game this season.
David Winbush is from Killeen, Texas (Ellison) where he led all rushers in Texas as a senior during 1996 with 2,564 yards and 22 touchdowns. Winbush averaged more than seven yards per carry. He was one of three finalists for Class 5A player of the year. Winbush finished his prep career with just over 4, 000 yards rushing, setting a new city record. Winbush also set a city single-game record with 314 yards. Winbush was a first-team all-state selection and two-time first-team all-district selection. Winbush was selected for the Texas-Oklahoma High School All-Star game and invited to the Texas-California All-Star game.
David Winbush was a four-year letterman at the University of Kansas. Winbush finished his college career at KU ranked in the top 10 in six different statistical categories. Winbush is one of only seven backs in KU history to rush for 2,000 plus career yards. He ranks sixth all-time in school history with 2,608 rushing yards (behind Gale Sayers and John Riggins). Winbush is just the fifth player in school history to lead the team in rushing statistics in three consecutive seasons. His 22 career rushing touchdowns ranks third all-time at KU. Winbush also registered the fourth-highest career all-purpose yards with 3,870. Winbush ranks third in both career plays participated in (642) and all-time rushing attempts (556). His 144 career points qualifies as the seventh best mark in school history and his 48 career receptions is the fourth-highest number by a KU running back.
