DL Hartweg joins Capitols

04/25/02 Capitols Press Release
The Lincoln Capitols today (Thursday) signed indoor football veteran Jed Hartweg (DL, 6'3", 280, Chadron State) to a contract for the remainder of the season. Hartweg joins the team for its trip to Bismarck for a Saturday non-divisional contest with the Roughriders.

Hartweg registered 10 1/2 sacks and 77 tackles in the past two seasons in Lincoln under coach Jose Jefferson, with 8 sacks in his rookie campaign of 2000.

"Jed's definitely an impact player, and is needed on the defensive line with Vershan Jackson being down," Jefferson said. He frees us up to play a few guys at nose to gang up on some centers, so we're real happy to have him with the team."

Hartweg began his collegiate career at Joliet (Ill.) Junior College before transferring to Chadron State for his final two seasons of eligibility. Jackson has been placed on injured reserve with a knee injury, joining defensive back Troy Watchorn, who underwent knee surgery last week to repair torn
ligaments. Also on injured reserve is defensive back Alonzo Grosse, who suffered an ACL tear on the opening kickoff of last Saturday's game with Omaha.

Defensive back Harry Kumah and offensive lineman Tony Van Horn have been moved from the practice squad to the 25-man active roster for this weekend's contest at Bismarck. Kickoff Saturday night is at 7:35 between the 3-1 Capitols and the
3-2 Roughriders.
