Capitol preview
05/01/02 Capitols Press Release The Lincoln Capitols try to end a two-game slide when they host one of the three remaining unbeaten teams in the National Indoor Football League Saturday night. The undefeated Sioux City Bandits make the trek to Lincoln to meet the Capitols in a 7:35 p.m. contest at the Pershing Center.
Lincoln dropped its second game in as many weeks last Saturday night, falling at Bismarck 54-38. The Capitols took early leads of 6-0 and 9-7, but could not match a Roughrider offense that scored touchdowns on its first our possessions. Wide receiver Damon Benning scored three touchdowns--one rushing, one receiving and one on a kickoff return--in the loss.
The game marked the second week in a row that the opposing quarterback had a hot night. Roughrider QB Danny Ragsdale completed 13-of-16 passes for the night, good for 182 yards. Running back Quentin Cradle ran for 86 yards and caught 7 passes for 99 yards as Bismarck won for the fourth time in six tries this season.
Sioux City remained unbeaten Sunday, winning in the final moments for a second straight week. Kicker Adam Hicks nailed a 26-yard field goal with 35 seconds remaining to help the Bandits outlast Tri-City 51-48 a week after they escaped Enid, Oklahoma, with a 29-25 win over the Crude.
Sioux City quarterback Jarrod DeGeorgia threw five touchdown passes and finished the night with a season-best 307 yards. That allowed the Bandits to overcome the most points allowed by their defense in a game this season.
Saturday's game is the lone home contest for the Capitols in a stretch that sees them on the road for five of six weeks. The Capitols will travel to Sioux Falls next week, Casper for a May 18th contest and then to Sioux City on May 25th before returning to the Pershing Center for a May 31st match up with the LaCrosse Night Train.
