Night Train Red Dogs and Diesel deal

05/07/03 Night Train Press Release

Division foes the La Crosse Night Train and Tri-City Diesel completed a trade on Tuesday that sent Night Train quarterback Marrial Shields and linebacker Tawan Temple to Tri-City for linebacker Anthony Parker. La Crosse also traded the rights to defensive lineman Saxton Torrence to the Rapid City Red Dogs for running back Lorenzo King. Shields will join the Diesel today in Kearney, Nebraska, while Parker will arrive in La Crosse tonight. Parker is expected to play for La Crosse Saturday night against the Rapid City Red Dogs. King (5’10, 220 lbs.) will likely suit up for the Night Train this weekend as well.

In addition, the Night Train signed defensive lineman George Mushatt (6’1, 315 lbs.) and defensive back David Johnson to help shore up the defensive side of the ball. Mushatt played for the Flint Flames (IFL) in 2000 and recently spent time with the Grand Rapids Rampage (AFL). Johnson most recently played for the 2002 NIFL Champion Ohio Valley Greyhounds. He recorded 32 tackles, six pass breakups, and one interception in eight games last season for Ohio Valley.

Freddie Cruz (CB) and Ben Antony (WR) were released from the team on Tuesday as well. Both players were released for conduct detrimental to the team and violation of team policy.

La Crosse will take on Rapid City Saturday, May 10. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at the La Crosse Center.
