Beef to host Wyoming in third of three straight home games

In the first match up of an opponent outside it’s own division since the Billings Outlaws on April 26th, the Omaha Beef (6-2) prepare to host the Wyoming Cavalry (4-5) (Casper, Wyoming) this Saturday, May 24th at 7:05 PM
This week the Omaha Beef welcome two new players to the team. Matt LaFleur, quarterback, and Ken Smith, secondary, hope to provide a strong presence in their first year with the Omaha Beef.
Matt LaFleur is a Michigan native joining the Omaha Beef after an impressive college career. LaFleur played one year of football for Western Michigan University before playing his final three years at Saginaw Valley State. While at Saginaw Valley State, Matt was twice named team MVP while earning second team selections in the GLIAC conference.
While playing for the Cardinals (SVS) he became the schools all-time leader in passing yards as a junior, and also setting the single season record in 2001 with 2,579 passing yards. Matt’s career stats consist of 6,791 passing yards and 60 touchdown passes.
Ken Smith comes from Arizona for his first season with the Beef. Ken has previous indoor experience with the Green Bay Bombers (Green Bay, Wisconsin – IFL), Lincoln Lightning (Lincoln Lighting – af2), Iowa Barnstormers (Des Moines, Iowa – af2), and LaCrosse Night Train (LaCrosse, Wisconsin – NIFL). Before playing professionally Ken played in college at Scottsdale Community College and at Western New Mexico University.
In his junior year at Western New Mexico Smith recorded 46 tackles (36 unassisted), 1 interception. During his senior year he recorded 49 tackles (42 unassisted), 3 break-ups, and 1 interception.
Wyoming Cavalry Head Coach Tyrone Fittje (Fit-hee) is an Omaha native returning to his hometown this weekend. Fittje began his achievements at Millard South High School where he became a State Champion wrestler in 1986. He also reported a 1st Team All State award in high school. Fittje carried on his success through his time at the University of Wyoming where he started 49 consecutive games. He was part of the Western Athletic Conference Championship teams in 1987 and 1988. Fittje started in three bowl games and was named 1st Team All Conference while attending the University of Wyoming.
Graduating at the University of Wyoming with a Science Education major Coach Fittje currently teaches earth science at Dean Morgan Junior High in Casper, Wyoming. Fittje has been coaching for 11 years and is the Defensive Coordinator at Natrona High School. Here he has helped them reach two state champion years. This is Coach Fittje’s second year with the Wyoming Cavalry. He is excited to be coming back home to play the Omaha Beef.
In same opponent home game match ups with Bismarck and Tri-City, the Omaha Beef have a wins verses Tri-City while Wyoming has a win verses Bismarck. In same opponent road game match ups with Billings, both the Omaha Beef and Wyoming Cavalry have losses. Wyoming has hosted a home game with a win over the Billings Outlaws.
