RiverCity additions to help all aspects of the game

05/23/02 Renegades Press Release
The RiverCity Renegades announced today that Head Coach Bill Charles signed five outstanding collegiate football players to the roster. Johnathan Young, Ejilika (EJ) Valentine, Lloyd Thompson, Jason Weite and Rob McWilliams are all expected to join the Renegades for Saturday night’s (7:35 p.m.) game against the Tennessee ThunderCats at the Family Arena. In addition to yesterday’s signing of running back Shon Mitchell (a former University of Texas standout), there are six new faces in the lineup for the Renegades.

“The team has made a great deal of improvement since I joined the organization three games ago,” Charles said. “However, we saw some glaring weaknesses on the team that needed to be addressed. Over the last few weeks, we’ve made great strides to find new personnel that will generate more productivity.”

The newcomers will play on the offensive, defensive and special teams for the Renegades. Young (6’3, 325 lbs) was a Second Team All-American Center, who played at Central Missouri State University. Valentine (6’0, 260), a nose tackle, and Thompson (6’1, 215), a linebacker, have added strength and quickness to the Renegades defense after finishing their careers with All Mid-American Conference honors at Central Missouri. Weite (6’3, 260) played on the defensive line at Iowa State University before finishing his collegiate career at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale. McWilliams was an NAIA All-American Kicker, who played at Lindenwood University and joined the Renegades after a pre-season tryout with the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League.

“The kicking game provides a winning edge in the game of indoor football, and McWilliams’ strong leg will lead us on the way,” Charles said. “With the defenders’ nose for the ball and the offensive experience that Shon and Johnathan will provide, we’re very excited to open the second half of the year in a big way this weekend.”

The Renegades meet the ThunderCats in an Atlantic North Division match-up Saturday night. For Renegades tickets, stop by the Family Arena or call the Renegades at 636-410-0333. For information on the Renegades, please check out www.rivercityrenegades.com
