TOP STORY – LANDSHARKS LOOK TO WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT
The Lake Charles LandSharks won their fourth straight game improving to 9-2 (7-2) after beating the Austin Rockers 50-36. The LandSharks can clinch the Atlantic South Division title with a win and a Houma Bayou Bucks loss. The Sharks can clinch a playoff spot by beating the Believers and the Fort Wayne Freedom losing to the Sioux Falls Storm.
The LandSharks host the Show Me Believers Saturday night at the Reef. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM. The LandSharks beat the Believers last year in St. Charles, MO. The Sharks’ QB Johnny Johnson is 2-0 against the Believers this season with 21 completions for 273 yards and 8 touchdowns. Johnson has also rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown on 7 carries.
The Believers beat the Beaumont Drillers last week 53-21. The Believers are lead by QB Justin Peery who will make his fourth start of the season. Peery was 11 for 18 last week for 137 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Believers were without their leading receiver last week as Scott Pingel was getting married. Pingel has 58 receptions for 688 yards and 19 touchdowns on the season. Defensively, the Believers are lead by DB Seth Hornack and LB Donovan LaViness. Hornack was the NIFL’s Atlantic Conference Defensive player of the Week this week with 8 tackles, 1 recovered blocked field goal for a TD, and two interceptions returned for touchdowns against Beaumont. LaViness leads the Believers in tackles on the season with 63.5 in nine games.
