This season the Lake Charles LandSharks are not letting up on teams the second time through the National Indoor Football League schedule.
After playing a tight game the first time against Mississippi the LandSharks (10-1, 4-0 Atlantic South) blew them out of the coliseum with a 53-19 domination.
Traveling to Enid, Okla., it would be hard to improve on Lake Charles' last meeting, when the LandSharks set a franchise record for points scored and margin of victory in a 60-6 win over the Crude.
Enid (1-9, 1-2) has lost eight in a row. The Crude are playing their final home game and the first of three straight Atlantic South games. Enid is allowing 45.5 points per game defensively while scoring just 23.7 points per. The Crude are coming off a 61-38 loss to Rapid City.
"They'll do what they can do to stop our passing game," LandSharks coach Kip Texada said. "They will try to stop (wide receivers Eric) Young and (Shadrick) McAfee, and defensively they will try to spread us out."
The win against Mississippi came after the LandSharks first loss of the season a week before. In his debut with Lake Charles, quarterback Brock Bailey threw for 182 yards and four touchdowns on 16 of 27 passing with no interceptions. Defensive lineman Kendall Shello also nabbed a season-best 41/2 sacks.
"I feel like we got back on track last week," Texada said. "Everything is good when you are winning, but how you come back from adversity says a lot. We did have some breakdowns on special teams, but I feel like we are moving in a positive direction. Any time you keep a team under 20 in this league is pretty impressive."
"We just hope to keep the momentum going," LandSharks lineman Brent Anderson said. "Everyone has to come out and play their best."
The Sharks will continue to be without injured starting running back Byron Allen and defensive backs Anthony Porter.
Lake Charles has already clinched a first-round playoff game with three games remaining. The final regular-season game for the LandSharks is June 22 against the Louisiana (Alexandria) Rangers.
