NIFL reviews playoff format
07/03/02 NIFL Press Release
Lafayette, LA------- The National Indoor Football League announced today that after reviewing the recent changes made to the playoff format for the 2002 a reversal of the changes were necessary. Executive committee member, Carolyn Shiver stated, ” In an effort to stabilize and strengthen the league, we wish to follow the NFL rules and regulations as closely as possible. In order to do this, we are reversing the ruling that Division winners were selected based on division records only. We will go to overall records within the division determining the division winners.”
NIFL President Carolyn Shiver spoke with team owners on Monday and Tuesday to get a majority ruling. The decision was to go with overall records. There are teams who will be impacted negatively with this change and for that we are sorry. It is hard to take the hope away from a team, but the good of the league must prevail.
The Playoff Format is as follows:
Division Winners: Best overall record within the division
Wildcard spots: Best overall record within conference (of remaining teams)
Tie-Breakers:
Division Records
Head to head records
Total points among head to head games
Point differential in regular season games
Total offensive points in all regular season games
Coin toss
