Myrtle Beach receives national recognition in the sports industry

Myrtle Beach, SC:  Celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2004, Sports Illustrated set out on a journey across the nation looking in each state for the one city that is worthy to be called, ‘Sports Illustrated #1 Sports City”.  On Thursday, September 4th, the Myrtle Beach Stingrays were on hand along with city officials, Mayor Mark McBride, and other local leaders as Myrtle Beach was crowned and presented with the honors for South Carolina.  Also presented was a sign from Sports Illustrated that will be placed along roads entering into Myrtle Beach. 

With over 120 area golf courses, local baseball, lacrosse, college football, and Stingrays Football, Myrtle Beach is proud to receive this award.

Myrtle beach will be featured in one of four 50th Anniversary Sports Illustrated special editions.

The Stingrays look forward to 2004, as they enter their second year and are proud to be in a city known as “The Sports City of South Carolina”.
