National Indoor Football League coming to Greenville
10/30/03 RiverHawks Press Release
Greenville, SC- Tennessee Indoor Professional Sports, Inc. (TIPS), ownership group of the former indoor football franchise in Knoxville, Tennessee, announced today the move of the franchise to Greenville, South Carolina. The new team name and logo were presented today at the BI-LO Center in Greenville.
The Greenville RiverHawks will play a fourteen game schedule in the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) in the 2004 season. The NIFL will be entering its fourth year when the 2004 football regular season begins this March and runs thru the end of June. The playoffs will begin in July and culminate with the Indoor Bowl IV.
The logo was kept from franchise in Knoxville, "We believe the logo fits perfectly with the new development along the Reedy River in downtown Greenville. The hawk is a ferocious predator that is native to this environment, so ironically we thought it
worked to keep the logo." said TIPS Director of Operations Garmez Parks, "We believe the economic development in Greenville shows the exciting future of this city and the area. We want our organization to be part of the development and growth of the metropolitan area."
The RiverHawks, whose colors are green, black, and silver, will play their home games at the BI-LO Events and Entertainment Center. The National Indoor Football League currently has 25 teams in 18 different states. Player and dance team tryouts times and locations will be announced soon.
