Storm to hold tryouts
12/03/02 Storm Press Release
The Sioux Falls Storm of the National Indoor Football League is pleased to announce that the team will be holding an open tryout at the Empire Golf and Sports Dome on Friday, December 13, 2002, at 8 PM. The cost of the tryout for those who pre-register is $50 and $60 for all walk-up registrations. The tryout is open to any and all individuals who wish to be evaluated by the Storm coaching staff, in hopes of making the team. All participants are expected to bring clothes to work out in and shoes appropriate for running on turf. Each paid participant will receive a tryout t-shirt and a detailed summary of their test times and scores.
“These tryouts are so important to the success of our team,” head coach Mike Aldrich said. “Many of our players have made our team by coming to an open tryout,” Aldrich continued. Corey Walker, a Southwest State University graduate and starting wide receiver for the Storm the past two seasons, made the team after working out for the coaching staff at the team’s open tryout last year. Walker went on to have a handful of tryouts for various NFL teams after playing for the Storm. “These tryouts are a way to get evaluated and possibly get your foot-in-the-door of professional football,” commented Aldrich.
There will be a number of current Storm players at the tryout assisting the coaching staff with drills and other tests. “Some of our current guys will be there to not only help the coaches out, but also to run some position specific drills, which will give the tryout participants a great feel for the speed and talent level of the indoor game,” Aldrich said of the tryout. “Anybody who ever wanted a chance to get evaluated and play professional football, this is a chance you don’t want to let pass you by,” finished Aldrich.
