Drillers ink former NFL players

(Beaumont, TX) (December 9, 2002) Drillers’ General Manager, Steve Reap announced today that Shock Davis, Pat Palmer and T. J. Sutherland, all former NFL wide receivers have signed with the Drillers for the upcoming 2003 season.

“These players will be the backbone of what could be the most prolific receiving corps in the NIFL,” stated Reap.

Shock Davis, a native of  Port Arthur, most recently played with the Seattle Seahawks after beginning his NFL career with the New England Patriots. He earned All-Lone Star Conference 1st Team honors in 1998 and 1999 while at Angelo State. Davis is 6’1” and weighs 205.

Pat Palmer, also from Port Arthur, was the sixth-round draft selection of the Washington Redskins in 1998. He later signed with the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears as a free agent. Palmer played college at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana where he set an all-time receiving record with 99 receptions for 2,223 yards, averaging 22.5 yards. As a senior he was selected as the co-Southland Conference Football Player of the Year. Palmer is 6’2” and weighs in at 190 pounds.

T. J. Sutherland, from New Orleans, was signed by the Minnesota Vikings in 2001. Sutherland is being reunited with his former college teammate Palmer. Sutherland’s receptions at NSU placed him in the Top-10 record books for single-season yardage, all-time receptions and yard per catch in a single season. He earned 2nd Team All Southland Conference honors his senior year. Sutherland is 6’0” and weighs 190 pounds. He has tremendous speed.

Reap noted more signing announcements will be made prior to the end of December, including word on returning Ranger players.
