Storm signs MVP linebacker, Hilsenroth
12/18/02 Storm Press Release
The Sioux Falls Storm of the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) is pleased to announce that they have re-signed the Northern Division’s defensive MVP and NIFL’s leading tackler Don Hilsenroth to a one-year contract.
Hilsenroth, 6’2, 245 lbs., earned numerous NIFL honors last season after compiling 137 tackles, 9 tackles-for-loss, 1 quarterback sack, 3 interceptions and three fumble recoveries while playing linebacker and leading the Storm defense to the top of the league rankings, through 14 games. Hilsenroth was also utilized by the Storm’s offense down on the goal line, where he was both a lead blocker and running back, scoring four touchdowns on four carries last season. “Donny is the heart of our defense,” said head coach Mike Aldrich. “Not only does he stop the run and own the middle of the field against the pass, he brings the emotional energy to the team and the fans,” continued Aldrich. “He has had great numbers over the past three seasons and he is being recognized around the league as the best linebacker in the NIFL and he can get the Arena (Sioux Falls Arena) rocking.”
Hilsenroth has been an All-NIFL linebacker over the past two seasons, earning the Pacific Conference’s Northern Division Defensive MVP in 2002 and participated in the NIFL All-Star game in 2001. Hilsenroth was also voted by his teammates as the “Defensive MVP” in 2002 and as the “Team MVP” in 2001.
