Storm signs All Stars Perkins and Walker

12/21/02 Storm Press Release

The Sioux Falls Storm of the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) is pleased to announce that they have re-signed defensive back Bobby Perkins and wide receiver Corey Walker, both NIFL All-Stars last season.

Perkins (6’1, 185, Univ. of South Dakota) has played the last three seasons of indoor football in Sioux Falls, SD, the last two with the Storm and in 2000 with the Sioux Falls Cobras of the former Indoor Football League (IFL).  Perkins has been a unanimous NIFL All-Star selection over the past two seasons, including Player of the Week honors in a 35-22 victory over the Sioux City (IA) Bandits last season.  Perkins has amassed a total of 28 interceptions the past three seasons, including leading the league in 2000 (9) and 2001 (11).  “Bobby has been with us from the beginning and continues to amaze everyone with his abilities,” said head coach Mike Aldrich.  “Bobby has a lot of experience, maturity and talent, and the crowd loves his style of play,” added Aldrich.

Walker (6’2, 212 lbs., Southwest (MN) State Univ.) returns for his third season with the Storm.  Walker was a NIFL All-Star last season after being third in the league with 76 total catches.  Over the past two seasons, Walker has emerged as one of the most dominating receivers in the league after catching 130 passes for 1,447 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2001 and 2002.  “Corey is not only an unbelievable receiver, but he is a physical presence,” said Aldrich.  “He is a big target with good hands and he is also very strong and pushes those defensive backs around,” continued Aldrich.  “He also has fun with linebackers over the middle too.”
