RiverHawks await season opener
03/21/03 Brandon Sykes
The RiverHawks play the defending NIFL Champion Ohio Valley Greyhounds this Saturday at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. Training camp has been a successful one this year with the arrival of Brandon Walker. Walker was the running back for the Knoxville franchise last year and proved that he can carry the load out of college.
While the Greyhounds will look for the RiverHawks to run the ball they have to also look out for our quarterbacks and receivers. White and Christie will suit up this weekend, but the starter will be named just before game time.
Head Coach Heath Shuler has been a great inspiration to all of the players telling them how important it is to work as a team.
The defensive line, which dominated most of last year, will be returning along with standout Mike Curcio and the return of James Beavers. Corner Scotty Stewart who
lead the team in interceptions last year is ready for the Greyhounds.
The Greyhounds lost their MVP Birdie Dockery from last year and guess what, he plays for the RiverHawks now. With a talented back field of Brandon Walker and Birdie Dockery the Greyhounds will really be tested in the trenches. This game will set the standards for playing in the NIFL.
